So, starting with a big recent event, on the 8th I went flying in the PT-19, an open cockpit WWII era trainer. It was about 5 minutes. Ya see, I was having lunch, and Jason comes in and asks, "You want to go flying?" I couldn't resist. So we went up and flew back to the airport. I was allowed some stick time. Then after we landed, I was allowed to taxi back to the hangars.
A couple days later I was at a funeral. My grandmother passed away a week earlier on the 4th. She was sick for several years. I was one of the pallbearers that helped carry the casket down the narrow path. If I'm to be buried, I have to say I don't want a tractor their. It didn't look like a funeral, but more like some guys fixing a sewer main.
A few days after that I had a hard time getting to sleep and getting it off my mind. We weren't close, but it just felt like I wasn't paying my respects, ya know?
Well after that I had a good time with my friends from school and at the airport before I departed for college. My school chums and I played games and watched movies all day. At the airport, I tried hard to have a normal hard working day, but the Spitfire crew wasn't going to have any of that. We had cake and I got a "College Survival Kit" with many college essentials and an English beer mug with my name engraved.
After that I finished packing and got ready for the three day train ride that left on the 16th. My dad and I stayed in a small sleeper car. America is beautiful. There were so many wonderful vistas just out our window. From red rock and greenery to flat grass fields from horizon to horizon.
While on the train we got to meet a bunch of people while dining. I met another aviation enthusiast, a former marine B-25 pilot, and an Australian couple. Many interesting stories from them all.
So we made it to Ohio. Slowly I moved in to my dorm. Today I finished moving in and got to have dinner with my lovely girlfriend and later go to essentially a Bowling Green State University spirit assembly. That was interesting.
Heh, a lot of interesting things going on over the past couple weeks. Both stressful and exciting. Let's see how college will go.
